6:30 p.m. Second Annual 24 Hours of Telemark
&endash; Set and Ready to Go! Team Sports Events is proud to
announce that conditions are very good for the confirmed
10:00 a.m., Saturday start of the Second Annual 24 Hours of
Telemark Cross Country Ski Relay Race in Cable Wis. We
would like to remind everyone that onsite registration will
be open on Friday night from 6:00 &endash; 10:00 p.m. and on
Saturday morning from 7:00 &endash; 9:00 a.m.
The Team Sports Events crew is
currently working hard at the Telemark Resort to bring every
participant the best 24-hour racing experience possible.
This morning we woke up to the nice site of falling snow
outside our window! The area received a bit more than 1/2
inch of snow throughout the day, which helps add some nice
skiing snow to the 24T course. At 5:00 p.m. today, course
conditions were fair to good. Phil Van Valkenberg of Telemark Resort
rounded up an extremely talented group of course preparation
personnel. They worked hard throughout the day to increase
the packed snow base to more than two to three inches
throughout the 10 km course. Conditions will allow for track to be
set on eight kilometers of the course and special attention
was paid to slopes where edging of skies will take place.
Some skiers may wish to bring their second-best or rock
skies, but use of these skies should not be
necessary. We look forward to seeing each and
everyone of you this weekend during a great
event! For lodging or other information,
please call Telemark Resort at 877-798-4718. January 7, 2002 Hello Everyone, Just like last year we are working around the clock to

inches of non-packed snow in the woods. Additional snow is
expected between now and race time. The 10.0 km Race course is in fair to good condition in
the normal ski conditions rating system. The trail grooming
crew at the Telemark resort, as well as countless volunteers
continue to work to fill in thin spots by shoveling fresh
snow from the woods to cover any thin spots. Classic Skiers: 2) What is the event cancellation policy? We will be on site all week assessing the conditions as
they relate to weather forecasts. We will not cancel the
event unless it rains significantly between now and race
day. If necessary we will have a man-made loop. The
following are the options that we will follow: 1. Situation: Current conditions to some snow melt
between now the event: continuous upkeep to keep course
open, Result: race on planned course 2. Situation: Significant course melt and rain to the
point where the trail is unskiable but temperature allows
for snow making: Result: Man-made loop minimum 2 km maximum 3 1/3 km 3. Situation: significant course melt, nothing left but
ice or guarantee of enough warm weather or rain during to
melt the course to un-skiable conditions. Result: cancel the race 3) When would Team Sports Events make a decision on
cancellation? Thursday night, by 7pm, we will try our best to place a
notice on our Web site: (www.teamsportsinc.com). We will
also leave a message at 262-549-6801 ext. 30 4) Enough negativity

for 2002, Chip Timing: each competitor will wear a chip for
ease and accuracy of timing. This will provide for quick
updates and final results.
Make sure all your teammates know the rules of the race.
Please print out a copy of the rules from our Web site
(www.teamsportsin.com/telemark24.htm) and share them with
your teammates. The finishing rule is very important and it
is your responsibility to know and follow. Please let us
know prior to the event if you don't understand.
Teams looking for skiers, skiers looking for teams or
solo skiers looking to switch to teams, please let us know
and we will do our best to hook you up with want you
need.
If you have none, please be sure to contact either
Telemark resort (1-877-798-4718) the Cable Area Chamber of
Commerce (800-533-7454), or the Valhalla Condos:
(715-798-4527).
As we all know, the weather in Northern Wisconsin can be
quite unpredictable so bring clothes and supplies for all
occasions. There are not any washers or dryers available for
our use at Telemark, so please bring plenty of clothes to
change into and to ski in. We will have local vendors
on-site and they will be selling wax and other items, but
please bring your own ski forms and wax supplies. Also make
sure you bring hand and foot warmers as the weather may get
very cold overnight. You may also want to bring a wind cream
(i.e. dermatone) for windy conditions and face masks and
balaclavas, we will hold the event into low
temperatures.
Night Pro will be on site renting lights. They will also
have their rapid charger with them for Night Pro systems
only. Rental will be $30 for the weekend. Purchase of rental
systems will be $99. Purchase of New Systems is $139. Rental
fee is applicable to purchase. Lee with Marwi USA will be up
on Saturday morning (possibly Friday night) to help you out
with the light rentals. Nite Rider will NOT be on site.
Telemark Resort respectfully requests that there be
absolutely NO WAXING IN ROOMS OR CONDOS. Please respect the
rules and policies of our host and do not wax in your room.
For you convenience there is a new area called "the waxing
tunnel" and it's the perfect place for waxing. It will be
available for use before and during the event. As a note,
ski forms and light are somewhat slim in the tunnel, so you
might want to bring these if you have them.
For your personal effects security, lockers are
available for $5 per person, per day, includes use of
locker, towels and access to the pool and Jacuzzi.
Check out time for all rooms on Sunday, January 13 will
be 11:00 am. We have moved the event start up two hours to
help accommodate prompt check out times. It is suggested
that you check out prior to the awards ceremony. There are
locker rooms where you can shower after the race if you
check out at 11 am. You will be given more information on
this when you register for the race.
We are still looking for volunteers to help cover the
many shifts that are required to staff the 24 Hours of
Telemark. Shifts usually are about 4 hours and volunteers
will be rewarded for their time. Please contact us if you or
someone you know will be able to help us. We need volunteers
to make the event go off without a hitch and be even more
successful than last year!
A free pullover fleece for working two shifts and great
skiing. We'll also have munchies for volunteers. Remember,
kids of a reasonable age can volunteer, too. We need lots of
people. I'll try to put you with your friends and family, or
in places you want to be.
Currently, there are a lot of questions about the
whether or not the 24 Hours of Telemark will be held. Under
the current conditions and allowing for some snow melting
the course is in good enough shape to hold a great event.
There is currently snow forecast for this weekend and next
week. So get ready for the 2002 24 Hours Telemark!
1) How is the snow/trail conditions for the 24T
course?
Currently about six of the10 kilometer course is track-set
for classic skiing. Under the these conditions, the
remainder of the course will be able to be set for track
skiing before the event. (We will wait until just prior to
the event to set track to ensure the tracks are in the best
condition possible for the event).
Most importantly, for all you tubers out there, the
tubing hill is open!
